I'm writing a fantasy novel, but it's hard going. Life isn't really settled yet so I don't have a routine, and as every writer or wana-be-writer will tell you you need routine to write. But this story has been at the back of my mind for a couple of years or more now. I've had a couple of false starts and have written a stack of notes, and now I'm beginning to put the story together chapter by chapter, in note form.
What I'm hoping from this blog is two things. Firstly it's a good place for me to throw ideas around, and secondly let you see what I'm thinking. Maybe you can come up with a better idea. Please let me know what you think.
Inevitably this means that you're going to get to know the plot and there wont be many suprises when/if you buy the book, but we will have a lot of fun along the way. I can't promise to take your ideas on board however. I do know the beginning, middle and end of this story
And where it starts...
"Man bites dog" or in this case "Demon enchants wizard". The wizard Meryvan realizes the danger he's in and tries to hide their daughter, but "that which never lived can never die". A crib from H.P.Lovecraft of course, and in this case it refers to the Demon. It's on the loose and immortal and now takes possession of the daughter. Even if Meryvan could throw a couple of fireballs it would mean incinerating his daughter. (The demon of course doesn't care that it's her daughter as well!)
Meryvan sacrifices himself by literally giving his love to his daughter/demon -- his life is contained in the Heartstone... "that which never loved can never die". By literally giving everything he has made the demon mortal, and has to hope (like us) that a hero or heroine will turn up and finish the job.
